Dan Mortensen

Dansound Inc.

Dan has owned his own sound reinforcement company in Seattle for 47 years, and hopes to get to continue doing live sound after this pandemic is over. His specialty was making acoustic music sound the same but louder for more people who were listening quite closely.

He has been Chair of his Section 8 times, Vice-Chair a few times, Treasurer twice, and otherwise on the Committee for 29 years.

He got real interested in CBS Records' 30th Street Studio in New York City after getting to know Frank Laico, who worked there as an engineer for its entire life (1948-81). After doing research into it for several years, Dan gave two presentations at AES Conventions about it, which apparently qualified him as an Historian and allowed him to Chair and Co-Chair the Historical Track at two AES Conventions, including this one. That and the SR company for so long apparently qualified him to Co-Chair the Sound Reinforcement Track this year, too.

Dan is a Life Member of the Society.
