Filippo Fazi

Dr Filippo Maria Fazi is Associate Professor and Director of Research at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research of the University of Southampton. He also leads the Virtual Acoustics and Audio Engineering Team.
His research interests include acoustics, audio technologies, electroacoustics and digital signal processing, with special focus on acoustical inverse problems, multi-channel systems (including Ambisonics and Wave Field Synthesis), virtual acoustics, microphone arrays and room acoustics.
Dr Fazi has been serving as principal investigator or co-investigator in a number of national and international projects, most of which were carried out in collaboration with a variety of industrial and academic partners and have led to the production of more than 140 scientific publications and several patents.
In 2010, Dr Fazi was awarded a 5-year research fellowship by the Royal Academy of Engineering and by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. In 2018, he was awarded the Tyndall Medal by the Institute of Acoustics. He is also a fellow of the Audio Engineering Society, a member of the Institute of Acoustics and is co-founder and chief scientist of Audioscenic, a start-up company that commercialises loudspeaker array technologies developed by Dr Fazi and his team.
